Australia’s beauty industry is full of inspirational women. From talented makeup artists and hairstylists to the female entrepreneurs that dream up the beautiful products and formulas that have put the a-beauty industry on the map around the world.
Here at abeauty.co, all 20 of the brands we stock are female-founded.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, we reached out to three a-beauty brand founders that we admire to find out who inspires them, what motivates them and the words of wisdom they have to share.

Q: Who are some inspirational women in your life that you look to for advice, guidance and support?
Almira:
“My mother is my biggest support who has inspired me to follow my dreams from the very beginning. Her advice always comes at the right time.”
Sharon:
“There are three wise women in my life. Two are 'Mother figures' - my beautiful Auntie who lives in the North of England and has loved me unconditionally since the day I was born, and a gorgeous 82-year-old friend who is wise beyond words and way ahead of her time. The third is my daughter Tess. If only I'd been as 'together' as she is when I was 25. In a funny way I'd say she keeps me in check as she often brings to my attention ways in which 'my generation' can be more progressive and open minded.”
Ere:
"My grandmothers in Mexico were amazing women in my life - a scientist and a healer – but alas they are no longer with me. My dear Mum is another wonderful presence who grounds me and gives me humble advice which is so important. I get inspiration and support from my beautiful daughters, Emma who is 9 and super inventive, and Maura, 11, who is so creative and supportive, and they are both very loving. Women of all generations in my family are special to me."

Q: Which female beauty entrepreneurs do you admire?
Almira:
“There are so many to choose from. Tina Craig from U-Beauty, Nancy Twine from Briogeo and Kirsten Carriol from Lanolips...”
Sharon:
“Past: Coco Chanel. Present: Rose Marie Swift of RMS. We've both been around a l-o-n-g time and to this day a few of her natural make-up products are my daily staples. The quality of her formulations today is as true as the day she launched - despite her incredible business growth. Clearly, like me, she refuses to compromise, and I really admire that level of integrity in an industry where it's the exception rather than the rule.”
Ere:
"I love the story of Estée Lauder, who was ahead of her time in founding an innovative female-led company. She challenged the status quo and chased her dreams."

Q: What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
Almira:
“Good skin starts from the inside out, so hydration and collagen supplements are absolutely key for me. Also, when I was growing up my mum always said ‘If there is one thing you do everyday, is to moisturise your skin’. A good moisturiser for face and body is a must!”
Sharon:
“Do whatever makes you smile more. Beautiful people are happy people, and smiles have this remarkably infectious way of spreading kindness and warmth. So, it's essentially a win-win.”
Ere:
"My mother was a fountain of natural beauty wisdom and made me love the simplicity of using fresh ingredients at home. Something I love is to spread the wet side of fruit skins on my face after making a fruit salad or chopping fruit for my kids. Antioxidants and vitamin C straight to the skin! I’m all about easy beauty, and this is a winner."
Q: What’s your guilty beauty pleasure?
Almira:
“A monthly treatment with Melanie Grant.”
Sharon:
“Life's too short to feel guilty about things that involve self-care.”
Ere:
"Eyelash curlers! Curling my lashes in the morning makes me feel instantly lifted and ready for the day. And rose oil on lips is always a treat for hydration and that luxurious scent."
