There’s no denying it, when it comes to organic skincare that is as beneficial to our skin as it is to the environment, it’s hard to go past certified organic, cruelty-free, vegan-friendly, toxic-free Australian-made, skincare and beauty brand LAMAV.

Coined as somewhat of a skincare champion in the beauty realm, LAMAV was founded by veterinarian, pathologist, research scientist and clean beauty pioneer, Dr Tarj Mavi.

After having dealt with her own hormonal imbalances, and their lasting impact on skin health, sensitivity and pigmentation, Mavi was eager to create a brand and product range that acted as a safe and effective skincare solution for not just her, but all women dealing with similar skin-related concerns.

Unlike the majority of skincare brands on our shelves today, Mavi was committed to creating a brand that excluded the use of harsh chemicals and synthetic additives – hence LAMAV was born.

When LAMAV launched in 2008 with an offering of only 12 products, it was a true reflection of Mavi’s commitment to creating a skincare and beauty brand that placed deep care and consideration on the products they created, their ingredients and their broader impact on the planet.

Fast forward to today and LAMAV’s holistic approach to health and beauty, has seen the skincare care brand grow in both status and sales, not just in Australia but the world.

When A-Beauty spoke with Mavi, she further confirmed that in 2024 the way women think and invest in skincare has become less about product popularity and price and more about product performance, formulation and ingredients.

“Women are drawn to LAMAV for its effective formulations rooted in natural ingredients. They appreciate the brand's commitment to organic certification, clean beauty, and a holistic approach to skincare, which promotes long-term skin health.”

Dr Tarj Mavi, LAMAV Founder

Similar to A-Beauty and the broader beauty industry, Mavi noticed a steady increase in the number of women opting for products that utilised natural bio-active ingredients.

Today, more and more are opting for products that utilise bio-active ingredients not just because they are typically familiar with these ingredients but also because they know these bio-actives have been scientifically tested.

“Women seek products formulated with bio-actives as they are scientifically proven to deliver results on a cellular level. They are safe, effective, and align with holistic skincare principles. These ingredients offer natural solutions for various skin concerns while reflecting environmental consciousness and cultural influences, said Mavi.”

“Ingredients are paramount at LAMAV for their efficacy and safety. Australian Plant Extracts are chosen for their potency, sustainability, and connection to the brand's Australian heritage, offering skincare benefits while minimising environmental impact.”

As the beauty industry's top experts, editors and influencers continue to spruce and support LAMAV as one of the top-performing skincare brands to operate and be created in Australia, A – Beauty trailed three of the brands’ most beloved products, to see whether plant-derived skincare products are just as efficient and effective as their chemical-induced competitors.

Lets meet LAMAV's top 3 best selling products:

Omega-3 Advanced Night Cream

With more and more beauty experts telling us to keep our PM skincare routine as straightforward and simple as possible, I prefer to opt for an evening moisturiser with a formula and ingredient list just as simple and straightforward.

Taking on board what today’s generation of skin-fluences (skincare influencers) critics, and beauty experts have said, LAMAV has both listened and learnt. Adapting their popular Omega-3 Advanced Night Cream, to be a simple yet effective product, ideal for various skin types.

When first trailing LAMAV’s Omega-3 Advanced Night Cream, I noticed that unlike most evening moisturisers and facial creams, the product’s formula was rather lightweight in consistency, quickly absorbing into my skin surface – minus that sticky residue we all hate.

Speaking of formulas, this night cream is brimming with a variety of bio-active ingredients, including Wakame, Chia Seed Oil, Fucoidan and more.

Typically not seen in the vast majority of mainstream moisturisers being sold today, for me it was the first time I had heard and now used these bio-active ingredients within my skincare routine. These bio-active ingredients – or what I like to refer to as, nature’s natural skin enhancers – actually benefited my skin more than I initially thought they would.

Within the first 2-3 days of using the night cream, I noticed the irritation surrounding my chin area to have calmed right down. As someone who struggles with significantly sensitive skin, prone to breakouts I found that when I did repeatedly use the evening cream, my skin’s sensitivity and levels of irritation settled for the following days.

Key Bio Active Ingredients:

  • Chia Seed Oil: Rich in omega fatty acids, ideal for restoring the skin’s moisture barrier, reducing trans-epidermal water loss (TWEL), nourishing skin and protecting it against harsh UV rays.
  • Wakame: impedes collagen breakdown, smoothes wrinkles and fine lines whilst also protecting skin against UV radiation.
  • Fucoidan: An extract from Wakame Seaweed that is highly effective and aids in preventing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles as it strengthens the skin for visibly improved firmness and elasticity.
  • Kakadu Plum also known as Billygoat Plum or Gubinge: the highest concentration of nutrient-available vitamin C of any fruit in the world and five times richer in antioxidants than blueberries. This combination strives to fight off free radicals, reduces the signs of ageing.
  • Natural Hyaluronic Acid: increases moisture levels to plump up the skin, delivering a firmer and more lifted appearance.
  • Chlorella Vulgaris extract: helps in skin restructuring and correction of vascular imperfections.
  • Macadamia Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, Shea Butterand Avocado Oil: promote suppleness and restore the integrity of skin’s protective barrier.

How To Use:

  • To ensure the moisturiser absorbs into your skin make sure your face is both clean and dry before applying.
  • Applying a small amount of moisturiser to your face, neck and décolletage gently massage the moisturiser into your skin using your hands.
  • Finish with an evening serum or Face Oil for optimum results (optional)

Hyaluronic Moisture Cream

There are a few things in my skincare routine that I typically will not budge on changing, switching out or altering…my everyday moisturiser being one of them.

That said, earlier this year when I noticed my beloved moisturiser was not moisturising the way it previously had been – think sudden breakouts, skin irritation and reactions with my matte foundation – I went out on a limb and tried a new moisturiser… that being LAMAV’s Hyaluronic Moisture Cream.

Whilst close friends had been coining this cream a staple skin saviour, I can now confirm it is indeed just that.

Whilst this moisturising cream is designed for both AM and PM usage, I chose to apply this hydrating facial cream in the mornings, before I applied any serum, primer or makeup.

As someone whose skin fluctuates between dry and slightly oily, I noticed that this little 12-hour hydration booster provided a balanced level of both moisture and hydration.

Despite featuring nourishing Macadamia Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil and Sandalwood Seed Oil, my skin was never left with an oily residue after application. When combined with the cream’s various other ingredients these oils regulated with one another, providing my skin with an even dose of both moisture and hydration.

Key Bio Active Ingredients:

  • Natural Hyaluronic Acid:increases moisture levels to plump the skin, delivering a firmer and more lifted appearance.
  • Sandalwood Seed/Oil:An oil now used in skincare for its hydrating, anti-ageing and skin-soothing benefits. Containing a variety of omega essential fatty acids (including Xymenic acid), it helps to target fine lines and wrinkles whilst also strengthens and protects the skin’s delicate barrier function.
  • Phytosterols:play a vital role in repairing skin’s protective lipid barrier, reducing roughness of the skin and leading to longer-lasting hydration.
  • Bisabolo:is derived from chamomile, it calms and soothes irritated, ruddy skin. Its rich antioxidant profile strives to protect the skin from free radical damage and oxidative stress, reducing the visual signs of ageing.
  • CoEnzyme Q10: a powerful antioxidant that neutralises and even prevents damage caused by oxidative stress due to aging.
  • Quandong and Emu Apple:Two powerful Australian natives rich in fruit acids and antioxidants that harbours anti-inflammatory and skin-healing benefits.

How To Use:

  • Ensure your face is clean and dry before applying any product.
  • Apply 1-2 pumps of the moisture to clean fingertips before gently pressing and massaging onto your face, neck and decolletage.
  • Allow the moisturiser to absorb and dry before applying any other products.
  • Designed to be used in both the AM and PM, you can use this moisturiser in either your morning or evening routine – or both.

Daily Vitamin C Serum

As a beauty writer, I have certainly tried and tested hundreds - if not thousands - of serums in my time. That said, this type of superfood-boosted serum is one I will happily be re-investing in time and time again.

As a serum is a staple in my year-round skincare routine, similar to most women I like to opt for one with a rather gentle ingredient list and fast-absorbing formula, that leaves no residue.

After using the Daily Vitamin C Serum twice per day – AM and PM – for 4 days, I found that my skin was visibly brighter, with the darker slightly puffy circles under my eyes reduced. As someone with quite fair skin, I also noticed my skin to have brightened in complexion, specifically the area surrounding my cheekbones.

Whilst I do tend to opt for unscented skincare products or those with a rather subdued smell, this serum has a light botanical scent, which felt refreshing to the skin without being overpoweringly strong in odour.

Key Bio Active Ingredients:

  • Vitamin C:promotes visibly brighter and evenly-toned skin, while supporting collagen synthesis. Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant which helps to fight the effects of ageing further, support collagen production and protect against sun damage—reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Fucoidan-polyphenol:complex in Maritech Bright (Organic Brown Seaweed) has been clinically proven to be highly effective at brightening skin and visibly reducing age spots and pigmentation
  • Rumex Extract:is derived from Field Dock—a plant native to Canadian prairies—rumex is used to treat hyperpigmentation by inhibiting the enzyme (tyrosinase) which causes the development of pigmentation in skin.
  • Kakadu Plum also known as Billygoat Plum or Gubinge:- has the highest concentration of nutrient-available vitamin C of any fruit in the world and five times richer in antioxidants than blueberries. This unique combination fights off free radicals, reduces the signs of ageing and leaves the skin with a healthy nourished radiance.
  • Licorice Root Extract: A potent antioxidant whichpossesses anti-inflammatory properties to help improve skin healing.
  • Turmeric Extract: A potent anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant. When used topically, it provides therapeutic benefits—reducing scarring and improving wound healing, while also soothing inflammatory skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis.
  • Aloe Vera Juiceand Rose water: Aims to instantly revitalize tired skin.

How To Use:

  • Ensure your face is clean and dry before applying any serum to your skin.
  • Massage a small of serum onto your skin, rubbing the serum into your face, neck and décolletage.
  • Allow the serum a few moments to fully absorb into your skin before finishing with a moisturiser or skin booster (optional).

Firmly believing that “no woman should have to sacrifice her health for beauty” Dr Tarj Mavi has created a brand and movement that supports skin health in a way that is healthy, accessible, sustainable and effective…something we here at A-Beauty can certainly get on board with.
